It has been wonderful having our staff, students and families back to Preston PS for the first week of school. The occasional rain didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Our teachers are creating positive environments for our students and helping our students adjust to new routines. Here are some of the comments students shared about their first week back: “I have a fun teacher,” “I liked going to the gym to play barricade,” “I like French because we get to learn a different language,” “My first week was awesome,” “I liked meeting new people this week.”

All the best for a great year of kindness, cooperation and initiative!

School Council meeting:

Dear Preston Public Families;

The Preston Public School Council would like to welcome everyone to a great school year! We have been busy over the summer and have lots of ideas for the school year- but we could use your help and input!

Our first School Council meeting will take place this Tuesday, September 15th, at 7:00 pm in the Library. Everyone is welcome, you need not be a member to attend. Our agenda will include many topics, from our hot lunch program, fundraising, our schoolyard greening project update, and more. We are looking for more parents to get involved and share ideas to make this year at PPS one of the best yet! Child care is available at no charge, just call the office to reserve a spot for your child.

In addition to volunteers to attend School Council meetings we are also looking for volunteers to assist with bingo, pizza days, a milk program, school yearbook, breakfast club, special events and more. If you have some time you are able to share, please complete the bottom portion of this letter and send it back with your child.

Please consider joining us on Tuesday evening!

Thank you in advance,
Kelly Kleinschmidt & Corey Kimpson
School Council Co-Chairs

Preston Panda Greening

The first stages of our greening initiatives will be installed over the next two weeks. In the kindergarten play area there is a new path to help students and staff move from one area to another. A layer of mulch will make the play area accessible, especially in wet weather.

The creative play area will soon have a pathway with additional sitting logs and rocks. The north corner of the field will soon have a zig-zag log and be enhanced with a layer of mulch.

Later in the fall we are looking forward to planting trees that will provide shade and play areas for years to come.

Thanks for your support and for outstanding work of our planning committee.

Street Safety:

Parents crossing with students, not at the corner, is a serious safety concern. It is particularly dangerous when crossing from the Duke street parking lot and crossing at the driveway to the kindergarten area. Please take the time to walk to the corner.

Thanks for your attention to the safety matter.
