Hello Preston PS families!

There are 100’s of good reasons for us to look forward to this September.  310 reasons so far …. YOUR CHILDREN!

We are looking forward to a great year.

Some things you may want to know:

  • You DO NOT need to supply your child with many “back to school” items.  We will provide pencils, erasers, crayons etc.  Some teachers may ask for a few items once school begins, but you do not need to go and spend $100’s of dollars on back to school supply shopping.
  • Things your child needs: Indoor/Outdoor shoes (running shoes for gym/phys ed are best), Lunch bag/containers, and a reusable water bottle.
  • Some “non-traditional” back to school items for you to consider buying ….. a deck of cards (for counting/math etc), a new board game, and books at your child’s reading level.

Class Lists – we’ve had many inquires about the class lists and your child’s teacher.  This information is typically posted on School Day.  However, we have been told that this information MAY NOT be ready in time for Sept 6th.  Not to panic or worry.  Staff will find a way to communicate with you about where to go on the morning of Sept 6.  We use a “ROBO CALL” system here at Preston.  Watch for a call from 519-653-0387 (our main school number).  A pre-recorded message will play.  Note: some teachers may choose to email or make personal calls.  If you do not get a call – again, not to worry.  Teachers will have lists with them on the playground and can help direct you and/or your child where to meet the class.

Bell Times: Our school day begins at 9:15 AM, and ends at 3:35 pm.  We have two Nutrition Breaks – one at 11:15 – 11:55, and a second at 1:55-2:35.

Bussing: As previously posted, there may be some delay in your child being provided bussing.  Students that were here last year will receive bussing on Sept 6.  Special Education busses will not start until Sept 12.  Many families who are new to Preston PS, may not have bussing until Sept 16.  Please check stswr.ca for details regarding your child’s bus route, pick up time etc.  You will be asked to create an account and will need your child’s OEN number.  Call the STSWR office if you require your child’s OEN.

SAVE THE DATE: Meet the School Community event is Tuesday September 13 from 6pm – 7:30 pm.  Come on out to the school to meet other parents and families, say hello to your child’s teacher(s), and have a general tour/walk around of the school.  Hope to see many families at this event.  Mask wearing is optional.

If you require further information, it is best to email us at pre@wrdsb.ca.  While the office is open, it is difficult to take phone calls while trying to register new students, and finish required tasks that have to be completed in order to have a successful start.  Again, please email us at: pre@wrdsb.ca
